Humans have long been searching for the fountain of youth. We long for a miracle drug to help us live longer healthier lives. A nutrient called resveratrol is making big news on this front.
Resveratrol was originally discovered in the 40’s, but has been gaining in popularity since Harvard released their impressive results in 2006. In the study, resveratrol was feed to overweight mice. Not only did these mice live longer, but also healthier.
Resveratrol appears to slow down the aging process. The supplement claims to lower cholesterol, prevents heart disease, decreases fat cells, and increase life expectancy.
Resveratrol is produced naturally by several species of plants when under attack by pathogens. It can also be chemically derived from Japanese knotwood. It is currently sold as a nutritional supplement, but don’t be surprised if it’s later sold as a drug.
