You’ve tried every diet that there is and with some you get great results for a little while and others just flat out don’t work. But sooner or later you find yourself right back to where you started and any weight loss that you may have enjoyed at first is gone and the scale is tipping at the same number as it was before you started the diet. Even worse you diet like crazy, get short term, mediocre weight loss and then gain all the weight back; and then some. Why don’t diets work?
The problem isn’t you because by and large diets just don’t work if not approached in the right manner. Here is why most diets will fail:
• Non-Healthy: Your body needs a certain amount of food to sustain itself. When you go on a crash diet, which is not healthy and that deprives the body of what it needs, it goes into protection mode. In the eyes of your body a diet is harmful. What ends up happening in many cases is your body storing as much fat as possible so that it can feed off of it when times get tough. So you lose a few pounds but then stall. This usually leads to frustration and the diet falls to the wayside with the weight usually returning.
• Non-Constancy: Many times people go on diets and start off great. They lose a few pounds and get all excited but then they hit a plateau where the weight doesn’t seem to be melting off like in the beginning. Feeling deflated with the waning results what happens? ‘I’ll just blow the diet for one day; after all, I’ve lost 10 pounds. One bad day won’t hurt.’ But one bad day turns into two, then three, etc. The end result; you back to your old ways and your body back to the weight levels of before.
• Diet Alone: Here is the cold hard truth. Diets will not work in the long run to make you lose weight without exercise. Everyone hates to hear that, but it is true. Losing weight should be a two-part approach. The first is a healthy diet, and not one of those crash starvation diets and the second part is a good mount of exercise. When the two are mixed the combination is always a winner and more weight will come off, maybe not at first, but certainly in the long run.
If you are out of shape ask yourself how long it took you to get that way. Perhaps you are in your 30s and you haven’t been in shape for over ten years. What is that a result of? Lack of exercise and a poor diet. So if you are to return to the shape that you desire how can you expect that a crash diet or any other kind of diet will fix over ten years of bad habits in a few short weeks or even months? The answer is it cannot. To get back to where you were so many years ago will take time; it will also take a healthy blending of diet and exercise.
So remember the next time you see that commercial for that new fad diet or see that ‘magic’ weight loss supplement in the store; with weight loss there are no short cuts. You need proper diet and exercise. If you think you can break the rules and simply diet to achieve you goals you will unfortunately be setting yourself up once again to ask, ‘Why don’t diets work?’

It’ also very important to be highly motivated to lose weight. You need to fully realize it and be ready to do all you need to lose weight not because of anybody, or maybe any spacial event, but because of YOU, your health and your life.
There no quick fix for being overweight. It takes patient and a solid commitment. It also takes intelligence to make the right healthy choices when it comes to losing weight. There are many ways to lose weight and some of the advise given isn’t always the healthiest.
